For continuity's sake, future updates about the Polly Cup will go here. And if you haven't heard about it, the thread from the Backside is here about just what the Polly Cup is. (Hint: it's like a rubber ribeye: plastic stakes.)

Great idea! Thanks, cvbear. I will likely point COAXIAL to the Big Polly. She just seems to be one of those freaks who like polytrack best.

Thank you. I know what you mean; I have horses that are stakes-caliber on synthetics but ordinary otherwise.

Just a reminder that the Polly Cup races are coming up very fast. Race day is in Arizona, on October 29. The entry box has plenty of space for your synthetic specialists in stakes action. I'll be there; hope to see you there also.

OK, guys, the first Polly Cup is in the books! Shame on me for not writing a preview, and shame on me for not using the stable I typically use to buy stakes race to buy the Cup this year; it won't happen again.

Congrats to stickup's Got My Ticket, who charged from the back to win the Little Polly Stakes in 1:24.26. The 2-year-old daughter of Golden Ticket-Rahy Set Go is a half to two stakes winners and got the measure of pacesetter Distort My Words in second, with Dark Warningflag in third.

Congrats to wbenglish's Last Second Save, who also made a strong closing run to take the Big Polly Stakes in 1:48.27, in a very professional effort. This 4-year-old scratch-bred daughter of War Front x Seattle Slew outkicked Sinatra Nostalgia and Coaxial for her fifth synthetic win in six starts; she's hit the board in every Poly race she's attempted.

Congrats to (my own) Star of Alex, in the hugabletom stable, who stalked the early lead and took over late to take the Fast Polly Stakes in 1:09.59. She's a 6-year-old daughter of Afleet Alex-Belle Of Broadway, a half to a graded winner and two other stakes winners who has won seven of thirteen Poly races and has hit the board ten times on synthetics. Tissot closed for second, with Dark Corndork winding up third.

On the colt and gelding side, congrats to whipit's King Of The Corks, who sat chilly off the early leaders and took over late to capture a photo finish in the Polly Futurity, in 1:23.91. The 2-year-old son of King Kamehameha-The Little Corka is a half to a Grade II winner and was making his debut on a synthetic surface. Express Seattle, Make More Sense and Try For Aiden finished in that order in  a tight four-horse photo.

Congrats to trainer thefools' Skyfacto, who made a sustained closing bid to win the Polly Cup going away in 1:47.38. The 4-year-old scratch-bred son of The Factor x Stravinsky ran his unbeaten synthetic streak up to three successive wins by running down early unchallenged pacesetter Stay Positive in the stretch, with Weena's Chief finishing third.

And lastly, congrats to (my own, again) homebred Command Performer, in the flowerbowl stable, whose middle move in the Polly Dash saw him draw away to a length victory in 1:09.48. The 5-year-old son of Yankee Gentleman-Tango In The Night stalked the early lead and took over near the lane to prevail over Casino Empire and Candi Foundland, for his seventh win in his last eight races, all on Poly surfaces, the only synthetic starts in his career following a stable switch.

It was a successful day of racing, with solid fields that were deep and well-attended.

So, I'm gonna try to do this again next year. Though, next year, I'll buy from an outside barn so there's no "preferential treatment", intentional or otherwise on my part. Thanks for showing up, everyone!

Thanks CVBear for hosting these. If I have a contender next year, I'll be back. Who knows, maybe one of those Canadian breds I always hope like the poly.
