Imagine my surprise when NYRA put the race that inspired my Hometown Turf Sprint Stakes back on the stakes schedule for this fall. I was thrilled, but it presented me with a quandary: how do I respond?

Well, I like having my Turf Sprint on Belmont Stakes Day. So I'm not going to move it. Now what?

Buy another race, and make it a new tradition. I looked over the Breeders Bowl schedule for something without much of a prep race for it, and I may be screwing things up a little for contenders, but I felt it needed to share the same weekend as my race.

So, this year, if you have a marathon specialist, reserve a space on the calendar for the inaugural CVBears Hometown Marathon, a Grade II, 12f stakes worth $250,000 being held in New York on October 13, 2018. It's a prep for the Breeders Bowl Dirt Marathon being held three weeks later, but I won a Breeders Bowl race on three weeks rest, so don't let it scare you off.

It's a gift to the Sim: a marathon, because I know the loneliness of the long-distance runner.
